Code of Conduct

As a wildlife and nature photographer, it is important to conduct yourself professionally and respectfully.

1. Prioritize Nature Above All.
A wildlife photographer must always prioritize the well-being of animals and their natural habitat over capturing the perfect shot. Avoid disrupting or altering any animal’s natural behavior.

2. Show Respect.
Capture animals in their natural environments without altering or disrupting their surroundings.

3. Minimize Disturbances
Strive to minimize any disruption to wildlife and their environment. Be mindful of potential disturbances before, during, and after your shooting activities. Avoid using flash or artificial lighting unless absolutely necessary, and never position it directly at or near the animal.

4. Respect all aspects of nature equally.
Whether common or rare, every wild animal and plant deserves equal consideration. Avoid disrupting common species in pursuit of rarer ones.

5. Understand the Law
Familiarize yourself with the laws and regulations of the country you’re in, and ensure you adhere to them at all times.

6. Respect property boundaries.
Always secure permission from the landowner before entering private property, especially if you plan to conduct activities like photography or filming.

7. Respect the fact that you are a guest.
Wildlife resides in its natural habitat. Treat it with the same courtesy and consideration you would show when visiting someone else’s home.

8. Don’t interfere with your subjects.
Do not manipulate wildlife or their surroundings for the sake of a photo.

9. Avoid baiting.
Refrain from using bait to attract wildlife. If using garden feeders, ensure they are consistently refilled with appropriate natural foods. To observe predators, you may place roadkill in an open area, but never in the same location twice.

10. Avoid Luring Animals
Refrain from using sounds or decoys to attract animals. Such actions can disrupt their natural behavior.

11. Blend In
Utilize camouflage to minimize visual distractions and seamlessly integrate with your surroundings.

12. Leave No Trace
Respect natural habitats during your shoot. Avoid causing damage or disruption, and ensure you leave the area exactly as you found it.

13. Approach only with caution.
Approach wild animals with care. Do not disturb wildlife.

14. Photograph endangered species responsibly.
When photographing endangered animals, exercise care to avoid unintended harm. Refrain from sharing specific details about the time and location of the image.
